Leadership Skills Activity – Objective Setting
Time Required: Approx. 20–30 minutes
Materials Needed:
- Flip chart or whiteboard
- Handout sheets (examples of vague desires)
- Pens and paper for individual or group work
Overview
Setting clear, specific, and measurable objectives is an essential leadership skill. This activity is designed to give participants a practical method to turn vague desires into actionable goals using a structured format. It works well as part of a broader management or leadership skills training session.
Setup & Instructions
- Start by explaining the difference between vague desires and specific objectives.
- Display or flipchart the following example to demonstrate structure:
Vague Desire: Health & Safety
Specific Objective:
I will reduce + industrial accidents + by 10% + by June 1
action verb + targeted area + measurement + target date
Practice Exercise
Distribute printed examples of vague desires. Participants must rewrite them into specific, measurable objectives using the format provided.
